 Learning

Learn. Grow. Develop.
Learning is truly a life-long process, and at Calvary, we have programs for preschoolers and adults alike. Our spiritual journeys to study God’s Word and better understand our relationship with Him are blessed by the educational opportunities numerous volunteers provide to us.

Sunday School
(Three-year-olds through adults)
Click on the link above to learn more about Calvary’s Sunday School curriculum and volunteer opportunities.

Adult Forum
The Adult Forum is a time for adults to learn more about God by discussing interesting and thought-provoking issues in an informal setting. Conversations about the religious aspects of topics have ranged from various books of the Bible to current affairs, and how the topic relates to our lives today. The Forum meets on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m., the Sunday School hour.

Past presenters have included: Joe Carroll, Chester County District Attorney; Lynn Shealy, Calvary’s Parish Nurse; and members of the West Chester University Gospel Choir. Speakers have come from the Lutheran Seminary, Southeastern Synod, ELCA and members of other religious denominations, as well as Calvary’s own members. Yotchik Bauxbahm told some very funny Jewish stories that applied to our own lives. There has been lively debate on parenting programs, youth issues and the topic of homosexuality in the Lutheran Church. The Diane Matthew’s Dancers performed modern dance for us which praised God in ways that they explained to us, so that we could understand the motions.

The Adult Forum welcomes anyone on a regular basis, or whenever they can drop in for a session. We encourage suggestions for new topics of interest! Please contact Ed Edleman at ededleman@msn.com for more information.

Vacation Bible School…
is a week-long summer opportunity for learning more about God’s world through fellowship, song, crafts, stories and games. Last summer, nearly 125 children joined the “SonForce” ranks, blasting off into outer space to learn about Jesus in a warm, welcoming, and fun environment! Vacation Bible School would not be possible without volunteer directors, teachers, helpers, music leaders, staff support and refreshment providers. Won’t you consider lending a hand.

Bible Study
There are several opportunities each week to study God’s Word with others, including:
Women’s Power Hour – Tuesdays at 7 pm in Fellowship Hall

Women Alive in Christ – Tuesdays at 9:30 am in Fellowship Hall

Breakfast & Bible Study – Wednesdays at 6:00 am in Fellowship Hall

Bible Study – Thursdays at 9:00 am in Room 124

Library
The library at Calvary is filled with a variety of books, ranging from historical tomes to Christian works of fiction to children’s Bible stories. There are Sunday School resources, videos, publications of the ELCA, large print materials, and periodicals. Why don’t you take a good book home and enjoy? Library volunteers are always needed to catalog books and serve on the Library Task Force. Any interest in storytelling is also welcome! Please contact Chris Turner at chris@clcwc.org to volunteer.
